Keith Sykes Research Fellowship in Italian Studies
Pembroke College, Cambridge

Following the appointment of the second Keith Sykes Research Fellow, Dr Kenneth Clarke, to an Anniversary Research Lectureship in Medieval Literature at the University of York, the College hopes to elect not later than 15 March 2013 to a KEITH SYKES RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP IN ITALIAN STUDIES, with tenure from 1 October 2013. Candidates should have recently completed or be about to complete a doctoral degree.

The College welcomes applications from scholars with research interests in any aspect of Italian culture and history from the age of Dante to the present: relevant disciplines may include Italian language and literature, music, history and art history. The tenure of the Fellowship will be for five years. The holder will be encouraged to do a limited amount of teaching for the College, and to offer an annual course of lectures in a relevant University Department or Faculty, but would require the permission of the Governing Body to undertake other paid work, and will be expected to support an annual "Italian evening" and the annual Keith Sykes Lecture.

The stipend payable from 1 October 2013 will range from £21,383 to £24,049 and is reviewed annually. Further financial particulars are available on request.

The Department of Italian at the University of Bristol invites applications
for an AHRC funded doctoral award (commencing in October 2013) to cover a
maximum of three years' tuition fees (six years' part time) at the Home/EU
rate, along with an annual maintenance stipend for full time students,
again for a maximum of three years (six years part time).

You will undertake individual research supporting the research activity of the Department and extending and enhancing its reputation, both internal and external to the University. You will be able to contribute to research within one of the three key research areas established by the Department, which are:

Medieval and Renaissance intellectual culture;
Reading cultures in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries;
The literature of migration and mobility in twentieth and twenty-first century Italy.

You will prepare an item or items for publication, in addition to contributing more broadly to the research activity and environment of the department. You may assist in developing or preparing applications for external funding as required and may undertake up to six hours per week of teaching at undergraduate and/or MA level as designated by the Head of Department.

You will possess a first degree or equivalent in a relevant field and a PhD or equivalent in Italian Studies or a relevant field. You will also have native or near-native competency in English and Italian and will have evidence of high-quality academic publications, or of the potential to produce them.

Italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies

The Italian Studies Graduate Program at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for admission at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels.

Based in the Department of French and Italian, the program is a broad-based, interdisciplinary program designed to offer students maximum flexibility in course selection and choice of specialization. While core courses in Italian literature, film and culture are taught by Italian professors in the Department of French and Italian, the program also draws heavily on the talents of scholars in other disciplines--such as Archeology, Architecture, Art History, Classics, Comparative Literature, English, Film Studies, History, Linguistics, and Music--who have expertise on Italian topics.

The Italian Department at the University of Warwick is offering one Doctoral Fellowship to an outstanding applicant for 2013-16.


Currently the Department has fourteen PhD students, making it one of the largest programmes in the country. Together with other departments in the Sub-Faculty of Modern Languages (French Studies, German Studies, Hispanic Studies) it offers intensive training programmes in teaching and research for PhD students. Italian also has a considerable and growing number of postdoctoral research fellows and strong interdepartmental and international links, from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands to North America and Australia. Awards available: 1 award available

Funding Details: The fellowship covers all academic/tuition fees. In addition, the successful applicant will receive a maintenance grant of around £13,600 (currently US $21,900) per year for the three years of the award to cover living expenses. The doctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to Departmental teaching and other activities up to a maximum of 6 hours per week during term time as part of the conditions of the award.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian in Twentieth and Twenty-First Century Italian Literature and Culture

The Department of French and Italian in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio StateUniversity invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Twentieth and Twenty-first Century Italian Literature and Culture. This is a one-year, non-tenure track appointment with the potential for renewal depending upon funding. Candidates with strong interdisciplinary interests are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching duties include graduate and undergraduate courses in English and Italian. A strong research agenda, demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching, and native or near-native fluency in Italian and English are required.
