The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, in The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Senior Lecturer in Italian Language, Literature and Culture. The successful candidate will develop curriculum for Italian language courses, supervise adjunct faculty, and teach a 3/3 load. Teaching will be primarily in 100-200-level Italian Language courses, with the possibility to occasionally teach at the upper-division. Additional administrative duties as assigned by department chair, including but not limited to placement exam administration, professional development leadership and participation, advising, and committee service. Grade 5: £24,057 - £28,695 with discretionary range to £31,342 p.a. (pro rata)
The faculty are seeking to appoint a Lector in Italian. This role is designed as a 3-year career development role (beginning on 1 September 2015) for individuals seeking a career in language teaching, and encompasses a 3-year development programme. Individuals will be appointed a mentor and will be expected to develop and maintain their own learning objectives throughout the programme.

The Lector is responsible for preparing and delivering language teaching within the sub-faculty (for 7 hours a week), including marking work and participating in oral examinations.

This 3-year programme is designed to provide training and development for individuals who are comparatively new to a career in language teaching, as such applicants who have already held a substantively similar post for any significant period will not be eligible to apply. Applicants must be fluent in Italian to native speaker level, and recently resident (studying or travelling) in Italy. They should have experience of teaching Italian at an appropriate level and an undergraduate degree, primarily taught in Italian, in language, linguistics or literature.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian. This is a one-year position at the Department of Languages at Clemson University beginning August 2015. The teaching load is 3/3 per semester, which includes language courses at all levels as well as literature and culture courses.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by August 2014 with native or near-native fluency both in Italian and English and specialization in Italian studies and culture. Special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in Medieval Italian Literature. Candidates should have an excellent record of prior teaching experience and show evidence of strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, potential for successful research, service and scholarly activity. Also desirable is a willingness to organize cultural activities for students both in and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate will demonstrate competence in foreign language pedagogy, excellent collaborative skills and a strong commitment to the enhancement of the Italian Program.

PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:

Standard Hrs: 37.5; Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
