TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant Professor of Italian

POSITION NUMBER: 8815

POSITION SUMMARY: This full-time, tenure track position at the
Assistant Professor rank will begin August, 2008. The successful
candidate will show dedication to and progress in each of the four
principal areas of academia: teaching, research, service, and
collegiality. Specifically, the candidate will teach all levels of
Italian; coordinate and promote the Italian minor and advise students
with regard to Italian; promote and, when appropriate, lead study
abroad; participate in departmental, university, and community
service; and serve in other areas according to departmental need and
candidate qualification.

POSITION DUTIES: The Assistant Professor of Italian will perform the following:
* Teaching all baccalaureate level courses in Italian in accordance
with program needs; developing and proposing curriculum changes and
program modifications to the associate chair and department chair
when appropriate.
* Maintaining a program of research and scholarship in the
discipline, including presentation of conference papers and publications.
* Coordinating the Italian minor program.
* Contributing to student growth and development through advising and
career guidance, including possible service as advisor to student
organizations.
* Supervising study abroad, including leading summer study trips and
coordinating exchange programs.
* Participating as needed in service to the department, college,
university, and community.
* Serving (including possibly teaching) in other areas according to
qualifications and departmental needs.
* Promoting Italian to students and the community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
? Ph.D. in Italian or in a closely related field.
? Broad training in Italian language, literature, and culture.
? Superior-level Italian proficiency as per the ACTFL standards.

Preferred:
? Prior teaching experience.
? Demonstrated familiarity with the ACTFL standards and a willingness
to work within an ACTFL-oriented program.
? Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and with
the community.
? A commitment to teaching, to research, and to service.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Italian program is part of the Foreign
Language program, which is housed in the Department of English and
Foreign Languages. The mission of the Italian program is to promote
Italian language and culture in southern Colorado and beyond, to
prepare students to use Italian in their daily activities (work,
leisure, service), and to enhance the language abilities of K-12
teachers and support them in their efforts. This mission is
accomplished by providing instruction to university students in
Italian language and culture and offering an Italian minor, by
sponsoring and promoting Italian-related cultural events, and by
promoting study abroad to Italy.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: Colorado State University-Pueblo is a regional,
comprehensive university. The 275-acre campus, which overlooks the
Front Range of south-central Colorado, is located in Pueblo,
approximately 100 miles south of Denver in one of the more culturally
dynamic regions of the country. Pueblo is proud of its ethnically and
culturally diverse population of over 100,000 people. The University
is dedicated to having a multi-cultural campus and is designated as a
Hispanic Serving Institution. The University enrolls more than 4,000
students in twenty-seven undergraduate programs with approximately

cyclists. The city is within a short drive of the Sangre de Cristo
Mountain Range, allowing for hiking, mountain climbing, fishing,
camping and skiing.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications.
